Creighton Bros. Supplies Eggs To White House Event, Food BanksA five-decade Easter tradition is continuing this weekend at the White House and Creighton Brothers Farms, Atwood, is playing a part.
According to information provided by Mindy Creighton Truex, president of Creighton Brothers LLC, America’s egg farmers are once again presenting the 2023 First Lady’s Commemorative Egg at the White House this Easter.
The time-honored Easter tradition celebrates America’s first ladies and the causes close to their hearts with a decorated egg reflective of their individual passions, according to information from the American Egg Board. America’s egg farmers have also had a strong presence at the White House Easter Egg Roll, donating all the eggs used on the South Lawn for hunting, decorating and the iconic egg roll itself.
The 46th annual First Lady’s Commemorative Egg was designed and painted by Carolyn Bickel, an egg artist from Nashville, Tenn. The design is an homage to first lady Dr. Jill Biden’s lifelong commitment to education and her passion for helping children reach their full potential, according to Emily Metz, president and CEO at American Egg Board.
There are two hen’s eggs featured in the 2023 First Lady’s Commemorative Egg, with the exterior egg hinged to reveal a miniature Easter scene on a small adolescent hen’s eggs.
The chicken “peewee” eggs within the Commemorative Egg for this year’s design are being provided by Truex, the American Egg Board’s past chairwoman from 2021 to 2023.
The White House Easter Egg Roll dates back to 1878 with the first-ever White House Easter Egg Roll, which previously took place at the U.S. Capital, according to the White House Historical Association.
Additionally, America’s egg farmers are committed to donating eggs to food banks and pantries across the country, according to the American Egg Board. In the weeks leading up to Easter and Passover this year, egg farmers are donating more than 5.5 million eggs through their Fighting Hunger by the Dozens pledge.
Creighton Bros. for years has provided 630 dozen eggs for the South Bend Food Bank, along with many donations within Kosciusko County. On Thursday, Creighton Bros. increased the regular donation to 900 dozen eggs as the American Egg Board coordinated an ask from egg producers to give a little extra, Truex explained. That turned into “millions of extra eggs at food bank locations coast to coast,” she said.
America’s egg farms produced about 94 billion eggs in 2022, according to the American Egg Board.
