SYRACUSE - The Creative Fish Gallery and Workshop is actively preparing for its third annual Celebrating the Arts Street Festival.
The festival is Sept. 20 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Often referred to an "art party," Syracuse Main Street will come alive with more than 50 art vendors, including photography, watercolor, jewelry, pottery, painted furniture, purses and a variety of art mediums represented.
Live music will be on the street featuring John Kirkwood, and Total Recall, Syracuse musicians, and the Ladybirds from Louisville, Ky.
The Creative Fish violin and guitar students, under direction of Sean Hoffman, will perform a mini-recital.
DownUnder Bar and Grill again will host its outdoor "beer garden" featuring prime rib sandwiches and more.
Kidz Free Art Activity will involve squirt painting, encouraging children to create their own art originals.
The Art Festival began in 2006 not only to highlight art in the community but also to raise funds for scholarships for art student's college educations. Local artists have been busy handpainting soup bowls and cappuccino mugs for the "scholarship chili sale." Purchase your choice of bowl and it will be filled with homemade chili.Local businesses have donated fabulous items for a scholarship raffle.
Proceeds from these events and community donations enabled the Creative Fish to award two students scholarships in 2007: Emily Leismer attending Indiana Wesleyan and Dane Smith, who is a student at Savannah School of Art and Design.
New this year will be:
Jason's, a food booth providing early morning coffee and donuts, and luncheon fare.
A "Paint Your Own Pottery" Tent will bring this gallery activity outside. Purchase your item and paint it outdoors.
Key Chain Design and Making will be offered also under a tent. You will leave with a beautiful unique wrist key chain of your own design.
And the gallery inside will offer a new and exciting work from gallery artists and artsy treats to tweak the imagination and charm the spirit. The new fall workshop class schedule will be available for registration.
