MILFORD - Police are investigating the cause of a one-car accident Tuesday afternoon that claimed the life of a Warsaw man near the Elkhart-Kosciusko county line.
Deven D. Granger, 20, CR 510N, Warsaw, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Kosciusko County Coroner Larry Ladd.
According to police, Granger was driving east on CR 1350N, approaching the intersection of Ind. 15, near Milford, shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday.
A witness who followed Granger's car from Bremen reportedly told police Granger was driving the speed limit and staying in his own lane of traffic.
For an unknown reason, Granger's car veered across the westbound lane on CR 1350N and struck a large tree beside the road. The impact caused the car to flip onto its roof and continue to slide down the road for nearly 200 feet before coming to rest in a ditch.
Police officers at the scene said they did not know what caused Granger's car to cross the road and strike the tree.
Granger reportedly died instantly from massive head and neck injuries. He was alone in the car.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department is investigating the accident. Assisting at the scene of the accident were the Indiana State Police, Milford Police, Multi-Township EMS, Milford EMS and Milford Fire Department. An officer from the Warsaw Police Department helped reconstruct the accident for the investigation.
