PIERCETON - A teen-ager was killed and two other people were injured in a two-vehicle accident Monday near Pierceton.
Sarah A. Webster, 16, of CR 500E, Pierceton, was pronounced dead from traumatic head and internal injuries at Kosciusko Community Hospital.
According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, Webster was westbound on Pierceton Road about 1:16 p.m. when she apparently made a left-hand turn into the path of an eastbound vehicle driven by Thomas L. Upon impact, Waikel's van rolled onto its side. Webster, Waikel and a passenger in Waikel's van, Madeline Waikel, 2, were trapped in their vehicles, police said, and all had to be extricated from the wreckage.
Thomas Waikel reportedly suffered a broken neck and is in serious condition at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. Madeline Waikel suffered unspecified injuries and was admitted to Kosciusko Community Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition this morning.
The accident remains under investigation.
Assisting at the scene were personnel from Pierceton and Multi-Township emergency medical services, Pierceton Fire Department and Pierceton and Winona Lake police departments.
