Mazie P. Michael, 91, Leesburg, died Wednesday in a car accident in Allen County.
Mazie Michael was a rear-seat passenger in a vehicle driven by Phillip L. Michael, 62, Leesburg, when Phillip Michael lost control of the car because of slick pavement and drove left of center. He was driving east on Illinois Road near Chestnut Hills Parkway when his vehicle hit a westbound van.
The van was driven by David P. Michel, 45, of New Haven, who was slowing to turn onto Chestnut Hills Parkway. Michel was not injured.
The front seat passenger of the car driven by Phillip Michael, Millie K. Michael, 24, Leesburg, was treated at Lutheran Hospital and released. Phillip Michael remains in critical but stable condition at Lutheran Hospital today.
The crash remains under investigation. Investigators believe weather was a factor and police are still trying to determine whether any of the people were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
