PIERCETON -ÊA Fort Wayne man is dead after a Wednesday evening accident on U.S. 30 near Pierceton.

Norman M. Buchan, 70, of Fort Wayne, was pronounced dead at the scene of a 6:55 p.m. collision on U.S. 30E, 973 feet east of CR 650E, Pierceton.

According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, Buchan was driving a 1997 Ford box truck heading eastbound on U.S. 30E when he struck the rear of a parked 1989 Peterbilt semi-tractor-trailer occupied by Sonny R. Flannery, 33, of Lewisburg, Ky.

Witnesses to the accident said Buchan passed them and was returning to the right lane when he left the side of the road and hit the semi.

For an unknown reason, Buchan's box truck crossed the southern white line of U.S. 30, struck the trailer and sustained extensive damage. The semi sustained minor damage to the trailer.

Flannery was not injured in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation by the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department. The Pierceton Police Department, Warsaw Police Department, Pierceton Fire Department, Pierceton EMS, Multi-Township EMS, Indiana State highway Department and the Kosciusko County Coroner's Office assisted the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department at the scene.
