ROANOKE - A Cromwell man died Saturday when he was ejected from his car as it rolled over in an accident on U.S. 24 in Huntington County.

Terry Smith, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene from massive head injuries.

His two passengers, Jason Fields, 19, of Cromwell, and Jessica Kroger, 18, Nappanee, were also injured. Both were taken to Lutheran Hospital.

The accident occurred at 2:19 p.m. Saturday as Smith was driving south on U.S. 24, south of CR 675N, near Roanoke.

Police reported he lost control of the car, which crossed the median and overturned in the northbound lane.

According to police, Smith and Fields were both ejected from the car. None of the three in the car were wearing seatbelts.

A Huntington County Sheriff's deputy said he believed alcohol played a role in the accident. The deputy also said it was reported that Fields was hanging out the car window or sitting on the window shortly before the accident.

The accident remains under investigation.
