Crash Kills Bourbon Driver, 36A Bourbon woman was killed Thursday night after driving into the path of a semi tractor-trailer on US 30 in western Kosciusko County.

Kosciusko County Sheriff's deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call at approximately 6:59 p.m. of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of US 30 and CR 800W with one person trapped.Officers arrived and immediately called for the Kosciusko County fatal crash team to respond.

The fatal crash team determined that Susan M. Smith, 36, of 3331 17th Road, Bourbon, had been southbound on CR 800W and stopped at US 30.

Smith then crossed westbound traffic with her 2005 Chevy Cobalt, but failed to yield to an eastbound semi tractor-trailer driven by Eugene H. Hehner, 60, Fremont, Wis.

Smith was removed from her vehicle. She was transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital where she was pronounced dead from internal head and neck injuries by Kosciusko County Coroner John Sadler. The crash still remains under investigation.

Also assisting were the Atwood and Etna Green fire departments, Multi-Township EMS, Indiana State Police, Warsaw Police Department and the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department.
