A 14-year-old Columbia City girl was killed Wednesday afternoon in a one-car accident near South Whitley.
Kelly J. Bills was pronounced dead at the scene from massive internal and head injuries. The driver of the car, April Morris, 16, of South Whitley, was treated and released from Whitley Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
The two girls were southbound on CR 900W, two miles from South Whitley. Morris lost control of the car and struck an earth embankment. The car then rolled over several times.
Bills was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the car. The car rolled over her and caused the fatal injuries, officials said.
Indiana State Police handled the investigation.
Bills' obituary appears on Page 3 today.
