WABASH - On Monday, officers from the Indiana State Police, the Wabash County Sheriff's Department and the Wabash Police Department responded to a multiple vehicle crash on Ind. 13, south of Wabash CR 200N.
Five people were injured and there was one fatality. Roger Prater, 58, of North Manchester, died from injuries suffered in the crash. Police said Prater was not wearing a seat belt.
Brandt Shambarger, 47, North Manchester, was driving a 2009 Frieghtlliner semi, northbound on on Ind. 13. He failed to stop for traffic halted at a road work site. He struck a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica, which was waiting in the northbound lane for the flagman to clear the southbound lane.
This resulted in a chain-reaction accident,
Injured in the crash was Wanda Freshese, 74, Urbana, who was airlifted to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne with a broken ankle.
Two passengers in another vehicle, Monica Harrell, 43, Roanoke, and Marcia Summers, 43, Urbana, also were airlifted to the hospital with unspecified injuries.
Vicki Ley, 55, Leesburg, was transported by ambulance to the Wabash County Hospital with neck pain.
Another driver, Phillip HIll, 44, Swayzee, was transported by ambulance to Wabash County Hospital, with unspecified injuries.
