More information about the man who led police on a pursuit Jan. 30 that ended in a crash has become available.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed Monday in Kosciusko Circuit Court, Jered Caine Yeazel, 35, of 312 S. Elm St., Etna Green, was wanted by the Fulton County Sheriff and officers with the Silver Lake and Claypool police departments were helping search for him.
When a Claypool officer spotted a vehicle leave a house in Silver Lake that was under surveillance, according to court papers, the vehicle had a loud muffler that was able to be heard from inside the officer’s car. Police reportedly followed the vehicle and activated lights once it turned into a driveway for the loud muffler. Upon the officer approaching the vehicle, the affidavit states, Yeazel peeled out, leaving skid marks in the driveway and racing through the home’s side yard, damaging it.
Yeazel led police on a pursuit that reached over 90 miles per hour in a 25 mph zone, according to court papers. Eventually, Yeazel lost control of his vehicle in the area of CR 500W and CR 700S and got stuck in a ditch.
Police pulled Yeazel from the car and arrested him. An inventory search of the vehicle produced a clear plastic bag in plain view on the front seat. The contents of the bag tested positive for methamphetamine, court papers state.
Yeazel is being charged with resisting law enforcement and possession of methamphetamine, both Level 6 felonies; reckless driving, a Class B misdemeanor; and driving while suspended, a Class A misdemeanor.
According to court records, Yeazel fled police in a pickup truck on Nov. 14, leading them through a field then eventually losing the police. Police later found the pickup unoccupied, but inside the truck found Yeazel’s debit card and methamphetamine.
Yeazel was picked up the next day after a homeowner in Pierceton called police to report a suspicious person walking around.
In that case, he’s charged with resisting law enforcement and possession of methamphetamine, both Level 6 felonies; and driving while suspended, a Class A misdemeanor.
