Editor, Times-Union: Wanted: Men and women of courage to stand up and speak out for liberty and truth. Volunteers needed: Courageous ones like Jonas Clark.
Jonas was pastor of a church in Lexington, Mass., where many of our country’s founders attended. Sam Adams, John Hancock and Paul Revere were among the members. These courageous men once asked Pastor Jonas, “If war came, would the men of Lexington fight?” Rev. Clark, like so many of the colonial pastors of his time, said he had trained them for that eventuality. The “shot heard round the world” was only yards from the church. Those killed that fateful day, the beginning date of our country’s Revolutionary War, were church members. Jonas, in anguish, proclaimed, “From this day will be dated the liberty of the world.”
It all began in a church with a pastor and members not afraid to stand up, speak out, and die for liberty and truth in opposition to oppression and tyranny. At this equally oppressive and tyrannical point in our history, courageous men and women are once again required to act upon the ever greater oppressions of our time. Primary among which is the issue of “life” itself.
Our July 4, 1776, declaration of dependence upon God proclaims as self-evident truth certain inalienable rights. The very first such right given us by our Creator and therefore not ever to be dismissed is the “right to life.”
Tragically, Barack Obama and the Democrat, liberal, socialist-like party he leads have trashed our Lord’s gift of life by enshrining abortion in their party’s platform. Consequently, thousands of innocent precious unborn babies are destroyed daily while deception rules secular media and silence a majority of Christian pulpits.
Predictably, with the exception of TV’s Fox News channel and Warsaw’s Times-Union (both still fair and balanced), secular media walk lockstep with the president and his party’s socialist agenda. These plans purposely distort all obvious signs of our country’s many terminal ills. Beyond the extermination of life created by God, other impending fatal ills include Obamacare – its countless hidden costs, regulations and terminal death plans for seniors and handicapped. Incomprehensible ever-escalating national debt, gas prices, job losses and inflation forecast hell for our descendants. Frightening also is the general ignorance of truth by a majority of our people. The signs of our beloved country’s demise are clearly evident for all who still have eyes to see. It’s time to wake up.
The battle lines are drawn for Election Day Nov. 6. It’s the Democrat “culture of death and deception” party versus the “sanctity of life, liberty and truth” forces – those who believe every life from conception on bears the image of God and bears his autograph. It’s now time to choose whose side you’re on. Wanted: Men and women of courage and conviction – men like Pastor Jonas Clark of Lexington and women like Warsaw’s Monica Boyer.
