If you're in the market for a home, this weekend is as good a time as any to get out and look for a new one.

This weekend is the Kosciusko Realtors Countywide Open House Weekend.

There are 57 open houses on Saturday and Sunday at various times. The Kosciusko Board of Realtors is also giving away three $100 gas cards to visitors to the open houses.

Visitors can register at any of the open house locations, which will be marked with blue balloons.

The open houses appear on 4C and 5C in today's edition of the Times-Union.

This weekend's event in Kosciusko County is part of a larger national campaign.

In recognition of April as National Fair Housing Month, the Realtor Nationwide Open House weekend will provide residents throughout the country with a chance to view homes in specific neighborhoods as the home-buying season officially kicks off.

The Realtor Nationwide Open House Weekend is a collaboration between numerous state and local Realtor associations across the country.

The event will provide potential home buyers with an opportunity to view homes throughout their targeted communities and obtain information and answers to questions about specific homes, market conditions and the home-buying process.

"This is a wonderful way to kick off the home-buying season," said Tyrone Adams, chairman of the Nationwide Open House Committee.

It's also an event designed to draw attention to the April 30 deadline for first-time home buyers to receive the $8,000 federal tax credit and for current homeowners to receive a $6,500 credit.

"Kosciusko County realtors are really excited to take part in this statewide event," said Jan Miller, president of the Kosciusko Board of Realtors. "It's a great opportunity to get outside and look at homes in Kosciusko County. And it's a great chance to win a $100 gas card."
