County Will Use Grant Money For Major Repaving Project

Kosciusko County has lined up funding for a major repaving project.

The county was informed recently that it would receive $797,587 from the Community Crossings matching grant program operated by the state.

The money will be used to help cover the cost of repaving about a 7.5-mile stretch of road along CR 900N between Ind. 19 and Ind. 15.

County officials anticipated winning the state award and had already begun the bidding process for a contractor.

On Tuesday, the county awarded the project to Phend & Brown, Milford, which submitted a bid of $1,163,809 for the project.

The paving work will be done early next summer.

In other matters:

• USI Consultants, Indianapolis, was awarded a contract to provide bridge inspections for the county for four years beginning in 2018. The county will pay the firm as much as $275,499 for the services.

• Representatives of OrthoWorx and AcceLINX provided an update. The groups work in various ways to strengthen the local orthopedic community.

Among their efforts, the group is seeing more traffic on its website and has hosted a series of webinars, said Brad Bishop, executive director of OrthoWorx.

AcceLINX continues to work on establishing relationships with universities,  including Indiana University, Purdue University, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and the University of Notre Dame.

A formal announcement about a possible arrangement could happen in the near future, Bishop said.

One of the specific efforts is to work with emerging companies to assist in different ways such as consulting.

The organization has been in discussion to work with 26 entities in various stages of development, including one in Warsaw that is ongoing. Nineteen of the companies are in Indiana.
