Friday afternoon, we were driving east on McKenna Road at about 3:30 p.m. It was a sunny afternoon about 500 feet west of the intersection of CR 650.
Someone had laid a large pipe across the road and covered it with about 2 feet of gravel. There were no warning signs ahead of this mess. The only warning was two orange cones sitting along each side the road where the gravel had been placed.
We were driving about 40 mph, coming out of the sun into the shade caused by a large barn which left a shadow across this piece of work.
My wife was driving. I was in the front seat beside her. Both of us watching the road.
Due to the shade and that the road goes downhill on the other side of the gravel, we did not see the large hump in the road until it was too late. Fortunately, my car is a large heavy Lincoln, but it was catapulted into the air with all four wheels off the ground.
A lens was knocked out, two passengers in the car hit the roof of the car with their heads, even though they were buckled in, and who knows what damage has been done to the underside of the car. Now we have to pay to have the car checked by a mechanic.
This is a hazard and should be corrected immediately.
