An inmate in Kosciusko County Jail is in critical condition today after apparently attempting suicide in the jail shower Monday.
Earl Dean Shepherd, 27, of 5395 W. Kiwi Road, Claypool, was found around 9 p.m. Monday by fellow inmates in the jail.
Shepherd reportedly used a mattress cover to try to hang himself in the shower of the jail. The inmates reportedly rang an emergency bell and told the jailers about Shepherd.
He was rushed to Kosciusko Community Hospital, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit.
Shepherd was booked into the jail March 29 on charges of fleeing law enforcement and invasion of privacy. He was still in custody because he did not post the $30,000 bond.
