A burn ban in Kosciusko County expired this week after not being renewed.
The initial burn ban went into effect Oct. 4.While the ban has been lifted, county fire departments released a statement Wednesday afternoon asking that citizens continue to follow the emergency countywide burn ban on a voluntary basis by refraining from open burning until the conditions have become more favorable.
According to the Fire Control Headquarters of the Department of Natural Resources, fire season has arrived much earlier than in the past with increased severity. Fire severity is high, requiring resources to commit more time, effort and equipment to suppression and mop-up in order to achieve fire control.
Outlooks, forecasts and projections indicate that conditions are favorable for fire occurrence and severity will continue well into the end of October. Fire departments ask for the public's support and assistance in fire prevention.
Anyone with questions can be directed to their local fire department.
