The Kosciusko County 4-H and Community Fair unofficially began with the Metzger & Sons Truck Co. annual sponsorship of the NTPA Super Semi Nationals Friday and Saturday and the eighth annual Semi Truck Show and Shine Saturday.
"We had more than 100 entries," said Mike Metzger this morning, "and 11 modified pulling semis."
The NTPA event and truck show will be the weekend before the fair for the next several years instead of during the fair's final days.
4-H activities and shows began Saturday with obedience and showmanship of dogs in the show arena. The 4-H Skill-A-Thon contest was at 2 p.m. with the 4-H Quiz Bowl at 4 p.m.
Saturday morning entries for the open show held in the Home and Family Arts building arrived.
Extension educator Joan Younce said there are many more entries this year and demonstrations scheduled throughout the week.
Horses, cattle, swine and other livestock entries for shows throughout the week began arriving Saturday and Sunday.
Many 4-H'ers participated in Sunday's parade and the "Battle of the Barns," which followed.
Also on Sunday, the cat show was in the Activity Tent, the rabbit and goat royalty contest and the goat fun show were in their respective barns.
Many equines and their riders found themselves all dressed up during the Horse and Pony Costume Class Sunday evening.
