Celebration of Earth Day '98 will be held at the Central Park Pavilion from 1 to 5 p.m. on April 19.
There will be many different activities and entertainment as well as information booths about the environment and recycling. The event is free to all participants.
Ronald McDonald will appear at 2:30 p.m. and present "You and Me and Ecology," an informative show that teaches children what they can do to help preserve the environment. The show encourages audience participation.
The Recyclone will present his show about recycling at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. The Recyclone uses props, songs and audience participation to teach children and adults about ways to recycle, reduce and reuse.
Between his performances the Recyclone will draw cartoon caricatures.
Outside the pavilion there will be a hands-on petting zoo, slide and moonwalk.
WBTU will host a live remote outside the pavilion from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and will spin their prize wheel.
Door prizes will be given away throughout the afternoon.
The Kosciusko County Soil and Water Conservation District will give away tree seedlings.
Earth Day has become an international event since it was first celebrated in spring of 1970. It is meant to be a public reminder of the value of our natural, and limited, resources. Environmentally friendly consumer practices at home and the workplace is also emphasized.
Several businesses and organizations will have booths, including the Audubon Society, the Kosciusko County Soil and Water Conservation District, the Indiana Lakes Management Association, the Warsaw Community Public Library, Tarkio Road, the Warsaw Bonsai Club, the Kosciusko County Master Gardeners, Turner Technologies, Superior Excavating and the Kosciusko County Solid Waste District.
The event is a collaborative effort between the Kosciusko County Solid Waste Management District, the Kosciusko County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department.
