County COVID Count Nears 1,400Between noon Thursday and noon Tuesday, the Kosciusko County Health Department received a total of 62 new positive molecular and antigen COVID-19 cases.

This gives the county a cumulative total of 1,376 positive antigen and molecular cases, including 17 deaths, according to the news release from the KCHD on Tuesday. Of the 1,376 cases, 1,151 are recovered; 200 are active cases and eight are hospitalized active cases.

As trick-or-treating for Warsaw and Winona Lake will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31, the KCHD, in coordination with the two towns, has outlined some Halloween guidelines.

The guidelines ask that people not participate in trick-or-treating if they have COVID-19 or may have been exposed to the virus, are a close contact of someone who has COVID-19, are experiencing any symptoms of illness (even a cold) or are a high-risk individual.

Wash your hands before handling or distributing candy and before opening or eating any candy.

Wear a mask if you are distributing treats and/or are a trick-or-treater. Costume masks don’t provide protection from COVID-19, so the KCHD recommends you use a fitted cloth or disposable mask.

Avoid contact while treating. Line up treat bags on a table for kids to grab. Hand out candy instead of using a communal bowl. Build a fun contraption such as a candy chute or zip line.

The Indiana Department of Health on Tuesday announced that 990 additional Hoosiers have been diagnosed with COVID-19 through testing at the state laboratory, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and private laboratories. That brings to 126,946 the total number of Indiana residents known to have had the novel coronavirus following corrections to the previous day’s dashboard.

A total of 3,484 Hoosiers are confirmed to have died from COVID-19, an increase of 30 from Monday. Another 227 probable deaths have been reported based on clinical diagnoses in patients for whom no positive test is on record. Deaths are reported based on when data are received by the state and occurred over multiple days.

As of Tuesday, 1,432,219 unique individuals have been tested in Indiana, up from 1,425,175 on Monday. A total of 2,198,785 tests, including repeat tests for unique individuals, have been reported to the state Department of Health since Feb. 26.
