The Kosciusko County Council held a brief public hearing as it gets closer to approving the county’s 2013 budget.
The council reviewed the Solid Waste District’s budget with no questions.
Solid Waste District Executive Director Sue Studebaker also gave a brief update on the county’s recycling depot building project.
The Solid Waste District’s budget will be approved at the council’s September meeting.
During a discussion about the county’s overall budget, councilman James Moyer suggested postponing an expenditure proposed through the assessor’s office.
It was for pictometry, aerial imaging for property in the county. The cost was expected to be $330,000.
“Let’s postpone the expenditure and if the need rises we can suggest an additional appropriation,” said Moyer.
Councilman Brad Tandy floated the idea of adding a staff member to County Assessor Laurie Renier’s office instead of the large expenditure.
“It seems like a huge expense,” said councilman Larry Teghtmeyer. “There may be some alternatives.”
The council approved postponing a decision on the expenditure and having Renier appear before the council at its September meeting.
The vote was 5-0 with councilman Bob Sanders abstaining.
Councilman Doug Heinisch was absent from Thursday’s meeting.
The county council’s next meeting is scheduled for Sept. 13 at 7 p.m.
The council meets in the old courtroom at the Kosciusko County Courthouse.
