The Kosciusko County Council Thursday heard a preliminary report on how reassessment in the county is going.
The council approved additional per diems for reassessment efforts.
County Assessor Laurie Renier told the council that her department is nearly done with reassessment and ahead of the state average of counties still working on the project.
The assessor’s office is going through 52,332 parcels in the county and still need to complete trending and analysis.
The number of parcels is up from the last reassessment.
Bob Weaver, health department administrator, told the council that a state Department of Health grant they had used to pay rent for their clinical division at the K21 Health Pavilion no longer allowed for that use.
Weaver told the council he obtained some rollover funds for $5,880 but still needed $8,750 to cover the $14,630 rent for the year.
Weaver said the criteria of the grant just recently changed and stated the money couldn’t be used for anything local health departments had used it on before. It could only be used for new projects.
The council approved the request for the additional $8,750 by a count of 6-0.
Council member John Kinsey was absent from Thursday’s meeting for health reasons.
County Surveyor Dick Kemper received the go-ahead to pay his department’s share for aerial photography for the county.
The project was a joint effort between the surveyor’s office, Michiana Council of Governments, the city of Warsaw and REMC.
The surveyor’s office will pay $15,547.25.
The sheriff’s department received permission to replace an employee at the county’s work release center.
County Administrator Ron Robinson informed the council of an interlocal agreement that takes effect in 2013, which will direct 911 calls from Nappanee inside the city limits on the Kosciusko County side to Elkhart County’s dispatch center.
The council changed its salary ordinance to allow for an increase of pay for two deputies in the clerk’s office that should be paid at a six-year level.
The council also approved a conflict of interest statement from Brad Newcomer of the Nappanee Library Board.
