At their meeting this morning, the Kosciusko County Commissioners approved the acceptance of a grant, a detour ordinance and signing over property on Buffalo Street to the city of Warsaw.

Kosciusko County Emergency Management Director Ed Rock went before the commissioners to ask for approval of a $50,000 Indiana Department of Homeland Security grant to retain office administrator Austin Bragg for district two. The commissioners promptly accepted the grant and approved retaining Bragg.

The commissioners brought up the possibility of a $500 fine for semis not using the correct detour for Claypool overpass project.

Within the ordinance, the commissioners put an exemption to those local residents and businesses. The fines will only be assessed to through trucks. The commissioners approved the ordinance.

In addition, County Highway Superintendent Scott Tilden asked the board to change the speed limits for parts of the detour.

In the ordinance, Tilden asked that CR 550S between Ind. 15 and CR 200W be changed from 55 to 35; CR 900S between CR 200W and Ind. 15 be changed from 55 to 45; and CR 200W between CR 500S and CR 900S be changed from 55 to 45.
The commissioners approved the ordinance.

Commissioner Ron Truex informed the commissioners that the city of Warsaw was interested in properties on Buffalo Street south of the railroad tracks. Truex told the commissioners that they could sign over the properties that are behind on taxes by $50,000 in order for the city of Warsaw to use the property as  much-needed parking or for commercial use if someone is interested.

The commissioners approved the transfer of property to the city of Warsaw.

At the end of the meeting, Public Affairs Officer Rich Maron recognized Wilbur Brake, Silver Lake, as the Kosciusko County Veteran of the Month. Brake was in the Army and spent time in the Korean War.

“I am very humbled by this award,” Brake said. “I want to accept this award on behalf of all of the veterans.”

The next meeting of the Kosciusko County Commissioners is Feb. 28 at 9 a.m.
