County Commissioners Approve 2 Rezonings

Posted

For rezonings, the Kosciusko County Area Plan Commission is only a recommending board to the county commissioners.

Tuesday, the commissioners accepted two of the plan commission's recommendations and tabled a third.

Devon Hochstetler's rezoning petition from an agricultural to an agricultural II district was postponed to September while Hochstetler makes a petition to the county zoning board for an exception. If Hochstetler can get an exception from the zoning board for one more property sell-off, the property will not need to be rezoned. The property is on CR 700W, Nappanee.

Hochstetler already has sold off the maximum number of lots allowed under county ordinance, so he needs an exception or a rezoning to sell off one more piece of property.

Hochstetler told the commissioners he wants to sell his daughter some property so she can build a house that is handicapped accessible. She has a child who is disabled.

The BZA will hear the petition Sept. 9.

Virginia Slone's petition to rezone property from a commercial to an agricultural district was approved. The property is on the south side of Pierceton on Ind. 13.

Commissioners also approved Duane Bartels' petition to rezone property from an agricultural to a residential district. The approximately one-acre property is on EMS T 49 Lane, on Tippecanoe Lake.

In other business, the commissioners:

• Heard from Kosciusko County Sheriff Aaron Rovenstine that the county received checks from the Indiana Department of Corrections and Delaware County for housing their inmates.

• Approved an ordinance that fines businesses $25 for false alarms. There is no fine for the first three false alarms and the ordinance takes effect in 90 days.

• Approved for Rovenstine to apply for grants to pay for radar boards.

• Denied an extension of a county clerk's office employee's Family Medical Leave. The employee is "facing more surgery," according to county clerk Sharon Christner. County commissioner Ron Truex said they didn't want to set a precedent.

County commissioners are chairman Ron Truex, middle district; Avis Gunter, southern district; and Brad Jackson, northern district. They meet at 9 a.m. in the county courthouse every other Tuesday.
