County Approves Salary Ordinance Amendment

Posted

An amendment to the 1998 salary ordinance was approved by the Kosciusko County Council Thursday.

The amendment establishes a standard rate of pay of $7.43 per hour or $67 per day for part-time township trustee and assessor deputies. The amendment applies to employees who are paid from the Cumulative Reassessment Fund. Other employees paid from the fund who are not township trustee or assessor deputies won't be paid more than the part-time rate of $7.43 per hour.

"This is the only way to do it without doing an additional appropriation," County Assessor Sue Ann Mitchell said.

Bob Weaver, health department administrator, asked the county council for a transfer of two funds.

A recent employee left the job and the department paid him for 10 sick days and vacation days, which he was owed. The payment created a shortage for Weaver's own salary. The transfer approved by the council will cover his salary.

County Surveyor Richard Kemper asked for an advance of $110,000 for upcoming reconstruction to drains. The surveyor's office has a balance of $40,000 but needs the additional $110,000 to pay for reconstruction already approved and for an estimated drainage program coming up. The approved project will cost $82,500. The estimated cost of next month's project, if approved by the drainage board, will be $75,000.

The board approved the $110,000 and said they thought Kemper was doing a great job.

"They're a good example of how well they and the highway department work together," council member John Kinsey said.
