Three 911 dispatchers were applauded this morning for their handling of nearly 1,000 calls during the Valentine’s Day snowstorm. Cindy Justice, Jackie Sears and Patti Mooney were recognized by the Kosciusko County Commissioners this morning for their response to the 987 calls the center received between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. Feb. 14. They were the only three dispatchers on duty at the time of the storm, which dropped about a foot of snow on much of the county. Commissioner Ron Truex remarked that he was surprised how calm the dispatch center was despite the conditions outside. County 911 Director David Rosenberry accepted a certificate of recognition on their behalf. Commissioner Bob Conley said he also wanted to recognize the law enforcement officers, EMS responders and county highway workers who responded during the storm. Also this morning, commissioners approved an agreement with Invoice Cloud Inc. to let residents access and pay their tax bills online. County Treasurer Sue Ann Mitchell said the service would benefit taxpayers as well as her office, which is frequently asked for extra copies of tax bills. “People say they lost their bill, their dog ate their bill, it flew out the window,” she said, noting that her office printed 7,500 extra copies last year. “You have no idea how many extra bills people ask to get printed.” And commissioners approved a service that will let people pay traffic tickets online, at the request of Circuit Court Clerk Ann Torpy. Commissioners later approved a road vacation request from Carol S. Doctor, a resident of the Bell Rohr Park subdivision on the west side of Lake Tippecanoe. The vacation of Miami Road, a 36-foot-wide unimproved road that ends short of the easement to the lake, had received the assent of neighbors and the unanimous recommendation of the Area Plan Commission.
