County Adopts Budget For Visitors Bureau

Posted

After some discussion, the Kosciusko County Council contractually adopted the Kosciusko County Convention & Visitors' Bureau budget at $290,000 Thursday.

An additional $10,000 will be set aside for the City-County Athletic Complex.

Phil Fozo, president of the Convention & Visitors' Commission presented a budget to the council.

The funds in question are generated from the innkeepers' tax, which is funnelled to the county from the state. Three county council members, three county commissioners and one city representative make up the Convention & Visitors' Commission, which decides where the money should go. The county council then gives its final approval.

In other business, the county council:

• Determined to not allow the Kosciusko County Solid Waste Management District to collect a share of money from the County Option Income Tax since it already approved for the KCSWMD to raise its tax levy.

• Approved to hear the not-for-profits requests for funds from the county July 10.

• Tentatively set budget hearing dates for Aug. 11 and 12, with budget adoption Aug. 14 and the final budget adoption Sept. 11.

• Approved Warsaw Community Public Library's Capital Projects.

• Approved Sheriff Aaron Rovenstine's request to spend DARE funds to trade an old vehicle in for a new vehicle for the DARE officer.

Members of the county council are Maurice Beer, Larry Teghtmeyer, John Kinsey, Tom Anglin, Harold Jones, Charlene Knispel and Brad Tandy. They meet at 7 p.m. the second Thursday of each month in the county courthouse.
