At least two Warsaw residents have expressed an interest in replacing Ernie Wiggins on the city council.
John Elliott, senior vice president of First National Bank, and Jim Breading, a local electrician, said recently they intend to file for the council position Wiggins will vacate in March to replace Jeff Plank as mayor of Warsaw.
Wiggins was selected Thursday by a Warsaw Republican precinct caucus to complete Plank's current term. Plank announced in January that he would leave the mayor's office to pursue a career in the private sector.
Wiggins represents the 3rd District, and anyone interested in taking his council seat must be from that district.
Candidates should file applications with Charlene Knispel, secretary of the county's Republican Party. No deadline for applications has been set since Wiggins has not yet formally resigned. Once he turns in his resignation to the council, a 10-day registration period will be set.
At the end of the 10-day period a caucus of the two 3rd District precinct committeemen will vote on the opening.
