Council Approves Resolution Honoring Former Councilman Silveus

Warsaw City Council approved a resolution Monday night to honor former councilman James C. "Mac" Silveus, who died March 10.

Funeral services were Monday.

Silveus served three terms on Warsaw City Council from January 1988 to December 1999.Silveus also served on the plan commission for three terms, traffic commission for two terms and Board of Public Works and Safety for one term. Councilman Jerry Patterson made the motion to approve the resolution, and council president Joe Thallemer seconded the motion. Thallemer said Mac always looked out for others.

Councilman Jeff Grose, who took Silveus' place on the council, said he was privileged to have known Silveus.

The resolution states "Mac" Silveus will be remembered by past and current members of the common council for his concerted and untiring efforts to make fair decisions in the best interest of the city and its citizens.

It also states all who knew "Mac" will fondly remember the fine attitude of friendliness and service extended to his fellow council members, citizens and local businesses.

Mayor Ernie Wiggins said the original resolution will be framed and given to the Silveus family.

"We thought it was appropriate on the day of Max's funeral that we honor him," Wiggins said.

In other business, the council approved a voluntary property annexation for James and Nancy Miner, 3679 N. Ind. 15, Warsaw.

The council also reviewed a Warsaw Fire Department activity report for February with 82 responses.

Councilman Charlie Smith requested the council receive information on how those who receive smoke detectors from the department are selected.
