Students in Melissa Ross’ fifth-grade class at Pierceton Elementary School are doing more than just learning their states and capitals to become more familiar with the United States.
Each student has a penpal this year in Canyon Country, Calif., which is about 30 minutes away from downtown Los Angeles. They have been writing monthly letters and will be learning all about what life is like in California.
Terrance Gidley, one student, said, ‘It’s new because usually I’ve only had them a couple of cities away. It’s nice to know what things are like in others states.’
