Coroner Releases Louvier’s Cause Of DeathThe death of a former Silver Lake man who died while serving time in the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City for child molestation was determined to be natural.
According to LaPorte County Coroner Lynn Swanson on Friday, Daniel Louvier, 38, died of an intracerebral hemorrhage associated with a subarachnoid hemorrhage and brain edema with herniation. Methamphetamine was a contributory factor in his death, she said.
Annie Goeller, chief communications officer for the Indiana Department of Corrections, previously stated Louvier died June 13.
Louvier was convicted Oct. 13 on two Level 4 felonies for child molesting. A jury took less than an hour to convict Louvier after hearing testimony from the two female victims who said Louvier touched them several times over a period of time.
At the trial, Louvier’s public defender, Travis Neff, said his client has always denied the allegations and attempted to form a defense that somehow the children were in cahoots and fabricated the entire story to take Louvier down.
On Nov. 24, he was sentenced to 24 years in prison by the late Kosciusko Superior Court I Judge David Cates. Louvier’s earliest projected release date was May 14, 2039.
On March 19, Louvier had filed for an appeal with the Indiana Court of Appeals for his 24-year prison sentence to be reduced, stating Cates abused the trial court’s discretion when sentencing Louvier to the maximum of 24 years and ignoring case law that requires maximum sentences to be reserved for “the worst of the worst.”
