Corbett Leads UW Fund Drive

"Never stop moving" is the DePuy company slogan, as well as Steve Corbett's, the 2008 United Way Campaign chairman.

Corbett has not stopped moving since becoming the chair and does not plan to stop anytime before the Oct. 31 campaign end date.Corbett is the director of operations in Warsaw for DePuy Orthopaedics Inc., a Johnson and Johnson Company. Steve and his wife Laura have two children.

Aside from his DePuy job, Corbett has been involved with the United Way for several years and is the executive sponsor of the Red Cross Blood drives at DePuy. Corbett is a United Way board member in addition to the campaign chair this year.

Corbett decided to take on the task of the campaign chair because he believes in the United Way and feels it is an "obligation of the fortunate to aid those who are less fortunate."

Corbett believes leaders in the community have to take a personal interest in volunteerism and have to be directly involved in the campaign to maximize the results. The large companies must embrace the obligation they have to this community.

Corbett believes the community responds well to United Way and is very generous. Donors are needed again this year to meet the needs which are never-ending. Needs and money demands increase every year, and the needs will never go away.

Striding toward a $1.7 million goal for the community, Corbett has included several other volunteers to keep up the pace with him. Corbett's cabinet members are: Stephen Deitsch, Zimmer, large industry unit chair; Kurt Kamholz, Precision Medical Technologies, medium industry chair; Greg Maxwell, Farmers State Bank, commerce unit chair; Doris Lemert, REMC, services division chair; Steve Blair, Elder Beerman, retail division chair; Ben Shively, Lake City Bank, finance division chair; Joan Darr, Kosciusko Community Hospital, professional unit chair; Siobhan Davenport, Kosciusko Community Hospital, medical division chair; Al Grossnickle Jr., Miller's Merry Manor, institutions division chair; Kevin Marose, Hall & Marose, non-medical division chair; Randy Maxson, Ivy Tech Community College, community unit chair; Deb Blatz, Warsaw Community Schools, education division chair; Chief Perry Hunter, government division chair; Steve Foster, special gifts division chair; and Chuck Niemier, Biomet retiree, leadership chairman.

Corbett would like to see the United Way reach its goal for this year and beyond, to continue to help those in need in our community. Corbett is leading the campaign so that both his personal goal and the community goal can be met this year.

United Way funds 54 health and human service programs for residents in Kosciusko County. Corbett believes the United Way volunteers have done an effective job in determining the unique needs of our community and have been very fair in directing appropriate funds while determining the effectiveness of the programs. Because of this, United Way creates long-lasting changes in people's lives and is prepared for current and future needs.

Corbett asks the community to be involved in the 2008 United Way campaign: Give. Advocate. Volunteer.
