PIERCETON - A possible attempted carjacking was thwarted Wednesday night when the victim sped away, but she may have struck the suspect with her car in the process.

Police searched the area behind the Shell station at Pierceton, but did not locate anyone where the accident may have occurred.

According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department report, the 19-year-old Pierceton woman left the gas station and turned onto Pequignot Drive, which runs behind the business. She saw the suspect lying on the road and slowed down. The man, described as a black male wearing a black ski mask and a dark-colored coat, reportedly got up and started toward her vehicle. He then allegedly attempted to get into her passenger-side door and yelled at her.

The teen-ager told police she became frightened, locked her doors and sped away. She heard a thump as she drove from the area and was concerned that she may have struck the man with her vehicle, but continued to her residence to notify authorities.

The incident occurred shortly before police received a 10:42 p.m. call about it.
