Cops Probe Battery Incident

Posted
An investigation into an incident last month that resulted in injuries to a local man has been completed.

The Warsaw Police Department, through a press release, stated that the incident on Feb. 22 in which Christopher A Susaraba, 20, of 10496 S. Bouse Drive, Silver Lake, was injured by Michael V. Carr, 22, of 316 S. Washington St., Warsaw, was probably drug related.

Susaraba reported to police that he went to visit a friend in the 300 block of South Washington Street, that afternoon. While sitting in a vehicle outside that address, Susaraba was approached by a subject he knew. The man left, then returned with a handgun and an argument started. The man, later identified as Carr, allegedly broke the car window with the gun and struck Susaraba in the head with the butt of the gun.

There were reportedly several witnesses to the incident. Susaraba, accompanied by several friends, drove himself to Kosciusko Community Hospital where he was treated for a head wound and cuts on his hands.

Carr fled to his apartment in the same area, and then left a short time later.

Police obtained a warrant and a search of Carr's apartment produced a large amount of marijuana and other paraphernalia, along with evidence that Carr had been injured in the incident.

Carr was located later that evening at Canterbury Apartments and surrendered to police. He was booked into Kosciusko County Jail on charges of battery, criminal recklessness, and possession of marijuana, all felonies. No bond was set at the time of his arrest, but he did bond out on Feb. 25.

While at the Canterbury apartment where Carr was apprehended, police found more marijuana and drug paraphernalia. A semi-automatic .45 caliber handgun believed to have been the one used in the incident was also recovered. As a result of this part of the investigation, Mallory L. Zellmer, 19, of 125 Canterbury Lane, Warsaw, was arrested for dealing marijuana, a felony, and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail. She bonded out later that same day.

Although the investigation of the incident between Carr and Susaraba is considered completed, the Warsaw Police Department and the Kosciusko County Drug Task Force expect a another arrest to be made due to the drug related nature of the case.
