Cops

I'm writing in reference to your front page on 9-4-09.

The more I read, the more questions I had.

I want to say, first and foremost, I have the upmost respect for our local police and sheriff's department.

I've known many of them for years. I've talked to them, go to church with them, and voted for them, given money and time to get them elected. This is in no way a slam or negative comment.

All I saw when I read the article was about some cops who made some bad decisions.

This brings me to another bad decision. One of the jailors chose to have too much to drink and drive home. She went to jail for five days and got 30 days off without pay. The guys who had guns and didn't do their job properly got 30 days off with pay. A mother of four kids gets no pay, a mark on her record forever and looked down on. One of the guys who didn't do his job, already has a job with a very wealthy community, where I'm sure he'll learn from his past and move forward to be a productive officer.

The mom with the kids may end up losing her home and on food stamps. It looks like to me it's worse to have a drink and drive home then hide guns and not do your job.
