WINONA LAKE - An adult and a 13-year-old boy were arrested this morning after police allegedly smelled the odor of burnt marijuana wafting from their mobile home.
Douglas William Holbrook, 56, of 1202 E. Wooster Road, Winona Lake, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 1:52 a.m. for maintaining a common nuisance, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and possession of marijuana. His bond was set at $5,000.According to the Winona Lake Police Department, Officer Brad Kellar was patrolling the Fairlane Mobile Home Park around 1 a.m. today when he reportedly noticed a strong odor of burnt marijuana.
Upon further investigation, Kellar went to the rear of a trailer and saw a fan blowing marijuana smoke out the window. Kellar then saw Holbrook and a 13-year-old boy allegedly smoking marijuana inside, which led Kellar to enter the home.
The pair locked themselves in the room, but eventually opened the door and were taken into custody.
Holbrook and the boy, who allegedly swallowed evidence when Kellar tried to enter the bedroom, reportedly also were drinking alcohol before they were arrested, and several empty and unopened alcohol containers were found in the room.
Also, evidence of marijuana smoking reportedly was found in plain view in the bedroom.
While Holbrook was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail, the 13-year-old was charged and then released to a family member. Information was filed with the probation department for possession of marijuana and illegal consumption of alcohol.
