Man Arrested After Attempted Break-In

A Warsaw man was arrested late Friday night after allegedly trying to break in to a residence while the owner was home.

According to a police report at the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Dept., Joshua W. Renfrey, East Levi Lee Road, Warsaw, had just arrived at his home in Whispering Pines Trailer Park when a window in his trailer was busted out.

Renfrey's son was near the window at the time but was not injured. Renfrey noticed a subject try and enter through the window then flee. Renfrey gave chase but stopped when the suspect ran in between two trailers.

KCSD Officer Dalis Owens was dispatched to the scene and he, along with Milford officer Johnathon Breaton, began a search for the suspect.

Owens stated in his report that he noticed a subject matching the description given by Renfrey riding on the passenger side of a vehicle. The subject, Daniel Ybarra, 25, of 340 E. Levi Lee Road, Warsaw, had several scratches and cuts to one of his arms, according to Owens.

When asked about the scratches, Ybarra allegedly denied having them. At some point, Ybarra allegedly became belligerent and was taken into custody.

A portable breathlyzer test given to Ybarra showed him with an initial blood alcohol content of .24.

Ybarra was booked into Kosciusko County Jail at 1:20 a.m. Saturday and charged with criminal mischief and public intoxication. His bond was set at $500.Bar Fight Lands One In Hospital

A Warsaw man is in serious condition at Parkview Hospital after suffering bleeding and bruising to his brain during a fight at the Time Out Inn, Warsaw.

According to the Warsaw Police Department, Jose Guadalupe Ramos-Tafoya, West CR 250S, Warsaw, was involved in an altercation at the bar around 11:38 p.m. Saturday when he was struck several times, including with a beer bottle.

Several suspects, described only as being Hispanic, fled on foot.

Ramos-Tafoya also suffered facial fractures and was taken to Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. He was in serious condition as of this morning.

Two Separate Fire Incidents Reported

Two separate fire incidents remain under investigation.

The first involves a car that was reported to be on fire at 12:59 a.m. Saturday.

A report at the Warsaw Police Department stated that a car registered to Joe Garrett Swanson, West Catholic Street, Pierceton, was on fire in the parking lot of Subway, West Lake Street, Warsaw.

The report stated the vehicle had a broken window and excessive damage to the area underneath the dashboard.

The fire isn't being investigated as an arson at this time.

The estimated damage of the fire was $14,000.

The second fire report came Saturday night when a dumpster was reported on fire at Bartel Printing Co., Cedar Street, Warsaw.

The reports of dumpster fires at businesses has swelled to around 10 this year. The most notable dumpster blaze was at the Gordy's and Tokens-N-Tickets Building. Both businesses were forced to close after at June 21 fire caused nearly $1 million in damages to the buildings.

Gordy's owners offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of subjects involved in the blaze. As of yet, no arrests have been made in any of the fires.

A call to Warsaw Fire Department concerning the two incidents this past weekend was not returned as of press time.

Group Home Fight Leads To Stabbing

A fight between Cardinal Center clients led to one being attacked with a steak knife Friday afternoon.

Warsaw Police Department and EMS were dispatched to Applebee's, East Center Street, Warsaw, after a report of a man being stabbed in the head.

When police and emergency personnel arrived, they found Larry William Zea had suffered an injury after he and another individual got involved in an argument.

Zea, who was conscious at the time he was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital, was treated and released.

The individual who allegedly attacked Zea, whose name wasn't released, was taken to the Bowen Center.

Elkhart Man Faces Drug Charge

An Elkhart man, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant, tried to flee police Friday afternoon.

After being detained, he was found to have a small amount of cocaine on him.

According to a police report filed by Warsaw Police Department officer Brian Martin, Robert DeWayne Jenkins, 34, Elkhart, was walking around downtown Warsaw. When it was discovered Jenkins had an active warrant out on him, Jenkins was stopped.

When Jenkins was asked for his ID, he allegedly handed it to an officer then fled, running through the alley in between Service Liquors and WRSW.

Jenkins eventually gave up and was taken into custody.

A small, clear plastic bag, containing what was later tested to be cocaine, was found in between two vehicles where Jenkins ran.

Jenkins was arrested for battery, dealing cocaine and resisting/fleeing law enforcement. His bond was set at $11,000.
