Cook Kickstarts Wawasee In Win Over Goshen, Leading Football Roundup

SYRACUSE — Starting with a 99-yard kickoff return by senior Clayton Cook, the Wawasee Warriors were off and running at home against Goshen Friday night. Cook’s 99-yard score on the opening play of the game propelled the Warriors to a 17-7 victory, ending the regular season at 7-3 and 4-3 in the Northern Lakes Conference. The victory is Wawasee’s third-straight, and fourth in five games, while Goshen has now lost 16-straight conference games, finishing the regular season at 0-9 and 0-7 in the NLC. Along with the big kickoff return, Cook also caught an eight-yard touchdown pass from senior Gage Reinhard later in the first quarter, and Lucas Garza put the game away with a 27-yard field goal in the final quarter. Reinhard completed 8 of 19 passes for 95 yards and the score, with Nic Wilson leading the rushing attack, picking up 38 yards on 12 attempts. Wawasee now prepares for its Class 4A Sectional 19 home game against Leo this Friday.

In their final game of the regular season Friday, the Manchester Squires fell 34-7 at Northfield. The victory leaves Northfield at 5-2 in the Three Rivers Conference, good for third place, while Manchester was 3-4, finishing fifth. Overall, the loss leaves Manchester at 4-5 going into its Class 2A Sectional 34 game at home against Wabash this Friday.
