Contractor To Remove Lodged Tree Limb

Posted

SILVER LAKE -ÊA bid to remove a 12-inch-diameter tree limb wedged in a tree and the entire tree was approved Tuesday by the Silver Lake town council.

The limb is lodged in a tree at 305 E. Main St. in Silver Lake.

The council approved H&H Tree Service's $650 bid for taking down the first tree. They are waiting for a bid on a second tree's removal.

Charlie Janes, whose house is by the tree lawn with the two trees and the lodged limb, offered to pay half of the cost for removing the second tree, said council president Brenda Wadkins.

Town superintendent Phil Shalley recommended that the trees should come down.

The limb broke in a recent storm.

In another matter, samples of concrete from the foundation of the water filtration building won't be tested unless it is necessary.

The council agreed the $210 cost wasn't worth the test.

"If it fails, we are not taking out three feet of concrete," Wadkins said.

Shalley collected the samples from the concrete foundation. The samples would test for concrete compaction.

The council did not want to test the samples unless they were required.

The town is replacing a leaky, 34-year-old water filter.

The council declared the situation an emergency in December, which allowed the council to forego the bidding and advertising process.

Work on replacing the system is two months behind schedule, said Shalley.

In other business, the council:

• Announced Lake Area residents' cleanup day is June 1. Silver Lake's cleanup day is Saturday.

• Said town marshals will check seat-belted drivers for Click It Or Ticket from Sunday until June 1.
