FORT WAYNE - Carl Hepler, the Indiana conservation officer injured in a Jan. 12 auto accident, has been upgraded to fair condition at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Hepler, 44, of Warsaw, suffered head and internal injuries in the accident on Ind. 13, south of Pierceton. Police said Hepler was southbound on Ind. 13 when he apparently lost control of his squad car on the slick roadway and slid sideways before being struck broadside in the driver's side of his vehicle.
William Jenkins, 41, of Sidney, the driver of the truck that collided with Hepler's car, told police he tried to avoid the accident, but ended up sliding off the road with Hepler. Jenkins suffered cuts and bruises and was treated at Kosciusko Community Hospital and released the same day.
