With his recent induction into the Indiana Golf Hall of Fame, Stephen Conrad said he believes his career in his home state is now a complete package. Conrad, a 2003 graduate of Wawasee High School, was inducted into the hall during the Indiana Golf Coaches Association meeting on June 20 in Lebanon. He was nominated by Wawasee coach Steve Coverstone. “It means everything,” the 30-year-old Conrad said during a phone interview Thursday afternoon. “To be in the hall of fame, it was always a childhood dream. It’s such a great honor.” During his prep career, Conrad led the Warriors to a pair of top-4 finishes in the IHSAA state finals at The Legends in Franklin. Playing in 28 various tournaments as a high school golfer, Conrad finished among the top three individuals in 20 of them, including 12 wins. “His accomplishments speak for themselves,” said Coverstone. “He was all-state three times. He won 12 tournaments in high school. He was in the top 3 in 20 tournaments. He was an outstanding player. He was a great team player. In just about every tournament we played in, he was the best player in the field.” Conrad now lives in Phoenix, and is the assistant pro at Anthem Golf & Country Club. He flew home for his induction, and has been here since as he readies for next week’s Indiana Open, which begins Monday at Brickyard Crossing. Conrad won the Indiana Open in 2012. Among his other accomplishments are winning the Indiana Junior Open in 2003 and winning the Indiana Amateur Championship in 2005. According to Coverstone, there is only one other person to have won all three events. That’s something that’s not lost on Conrad. “I’ve been playing golf since I was 8,” said Conrad. “Golf is obviously a very big part of my life. It’s a great honor to be in the hall of fame. And to have won the Junior Open, the Amateur, the Indiana Open and now be in the hall of fame, my career here in Indiana is a complete package.”
