In the second week of filing for the May primary, four county incumbents have filled out their paperwork with the county clerk.
Cary Groninger, middle district county commissioner, and Brad Jackson, northern district commissioner, have filed, as they indicated they would at the end of 2019. Both are Republicans.
Jackson will have to go up against Republican Marcia Baumgartner in the primary, as she filed for the seat last week.
Republican Anthony Ciriello will seek to remain county coroner, while Rhonda Helser, also Republican, hopes to retain her position as county treasurer.
As of Friday, Groninger, Ciriello and Helser are unopposed.
Congressman Jim Banks’ office sent out a news release Friday indicating he filed to run for re-election to represent Indiana’s 3rd District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He has served in that position since Jan. 3, 2017, and serves on the House Armed Services Committee, Veteran Affairs Committee and Education and Labor Committee.
In the release, Banks states, “Our president is being dragged through a vindictive, groundless impeachment trial. Our military is facing down a murderous Iranian theocracy. Our economy is under assault by an exploitative Chinese regime that rejects the idea of fair trade. Our freedoms are under assault from a growing, radical left wing. I have no doubt that the next two years will be some of the most consequential years in recent history. I’ve spent over three years now fighting for Hoosier values and interests in a rambunctious Congress. I'm proud of my record, and I know what it takes to get things done. I hope northeast Indiana voters give me the opportunity to continue partnering with our president and working to deliver results to northeast Indiana’s businesses, families, workers and service members."
Dr. Chris Magiera previously announced a run for the district.
Republican State Sen. Ryan Mishler announced Thursday that he will seek another term in the Indiana State Senate representing District 9. The district includes portions of Elkhart, Kosciusko, Marshall and St. Joseph counties.
Mishler, first elected to the state senate in 2004, serves as chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations and chairs the State Budget Committee. He also serves on the Senate Committees on Health and Provider Servies and Tax and Fiscal Policy.
“Indiana is the fiscal envy of the nation, with low taxes, strong reserves and a booming economy,” Mishler said in the release. “I’m proud of what we have accomplished to keep Indiana moving forward and I hope to serve another term because we still have much more work to do.”
A graduate of Bremen High School, the University of Southern California and the Worsham School of Mortuary Science, Mishler is president of Mishler Funeral Homes and the Bremen Monument Company.
Democrat Brandon Cavanaugh also has announced a run for District 9.
For State Representative District 22, Republican Bill Dixon has filed, and will face incumbent Republican Curt Nisly, who also has filed.
A release from Governor Eric Holcomb’s campaign states he will file for re-election with the Indiana Secretary of State at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Filing for the primary ends Feb. 7. Elections for Indiana's primary will be held May 5, with the general election on Nov. 3.
