Concert Series Possible At Fairgrounds

Posted

Plans are tentatively set for a concert next summer at the Kosciusko County Fairgrounds.

Details are still pending, but the promotor says they plan to line up a nationally known act.

The concert is being planned by PlayDay Productions, a Warsaw based company.

PlayDay Productions wants to enhance the appeal of the community and the fairgrounds by providing local entertainment options, according to a prepared statement released by the firm.

Plans for a tentative concert come after a proposal by PlayDay for a concert series at the fairgrounds was turned down.

The original proposal also sought significant upgrades to the race track and grandstand area of the fairgrounds. The fair didn't support the concert series because it can't afford the cost of improvements sought by PlayDay, said fairgrounds spokesman Becky Thomas.

Instead, Thomas said, the board is interested in a test concert, which could lead to more shows in the future.

The concert has the potential to develop into a six-part series in future years, according to PlayDay.

PlayDay productions is headed up by Denise Beno, activities director for the Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department. Beno has been instrumental in developing concerts and other programs, most of which have been at the two-year-old Central Park.

Beno and Thomas were upset with an item in Saturday's Potpourri column that suggested a proposal by PlayDay got a cool response from the fair board.
