Though Warsaw's Central Park recently was included on the tour dates of musical group Kansas's Web site, park officials said the band will not be playing in the city this year.
The department hoped to reach an agreement with the band for the June 16 Classic Rock Concert, but the band canceled due to routing problems.
Now The Turtles and The Buckinhams have been scheduled to play the summer concert, which draws as many as 6,000 attendants each year.
"Kansas was a band we tried to get, but things just didn't work out," Parks Department Activity Director Janelle Wilson said. "But now we have the Turtles, and it's going to be a great show. Maybe we can get Kansas another year."
The Turtles, nationally known for their songs "Happy Together" and "She'd Rather Be With Me," will be the main act for the event.
Also scheduled for the park is the July 28 Country Concert featuring singer Chris Cagle and opening band Cook and Belle; the July 14 Blues and BBQs with headlining band Lil' Ed and the Blues Imperials; and the Sept. 16 Latin Celebration.
Evening concerts will be scheduled every Friday from June 2 through Aug. 25 at the Central Park Plaza, with performing bands including the Lake Area Community Band, Northeast Indiana Banjo Society and the bluegrass group Flintlock.
All concerts are open to the public and free of charge.
Upcoming children's events include the new Teddy Bear Picnic May 24, a Kids Fishing Derby June 3, and Movie Mondays, where a family-oriented film will be shown at Central Park, starting June 5.
"We're hoping to put up some paneling to create shading so we can still show the movies in the park," Wilson said. "But, if it gets dark too late, we might have to start running everything inside the pavilion."
Though Warsaw's Parks Department board did not meet this month, members have been busy finalizing contracts for the various events, as well as finishing the new Mantis Skate Park, which opened its doors to the public April 15.
