The community is encouraged to remember Polish President Lech Kaczynski and others who died in a plane crash last Saturday.

The Greater Warsaw Ministerial Association and Thaddeus Kosciuszko Chapter Sons of The American Legion is planning a time of prayer and remembrance.

The event will be at the Thaddeus Kosciuszko Monument at the Kosciusko County Courthouse lawn at 9 a.m.Kaczynski, his wife Maria, and top Polish officials died in a plane crash April 10 in Russia. The streets of Warsaw, Poland, have been filled with thousands of mourners since the accident that had 96 victims.

"We want the citizens of Warsaw, Indiana, and Kosciusko County to let the people of Poland know that they are in our thoughts and prayers," said Ken Locke, GWMA director.

Thaddeus Kosciuszko, namesake of the county, came to America from Poland and served during the American Revolution and then returned to his native land fighting for independence for his country.

He died in exile in Switzerland, never seeing his dream become a reality.

"Poland is a great friend of America and we want them to know that their 'sister' city is remembering them," Locke said.

There also will be cards that people may sign that will be sent to the Consulate General of Poland in Chicago to be forwarded to the proper authorities.

Sunday has been declared "Pray For Poland Sunday" as the GWMA is asking all churches to pray and have a moment of silence. For more information, call 574-268-7697.
