Community Foundation Awards Grants To Area Charities

The Fulton County Community Foundation Grant Committee awarded $20,000 of Community Support Grants to organizations throughout Fulton County.
Twenty-one organizations applied for funding for a variety of projects, requesting a total of more than $175,000. After reviewing the applications, the grant committee awarded nine charitable organizations grants to help fund their projects.
Community Development and Youth Organizations funded include: the Kewanna-Union Township Public Library for a new projector; the Junior Achievement for the Finance Park Program for Rochester Middle School and Caston Junior High students; and the PEERS Project of Indiana which uses positive teenage role models to educate and motivate their peers to be leaders and avoid risky behavior.
Art and Culture programs that received funding include the Akron Area Arts League to help fund their AAAL sustainability plan and the Ivy Tech Foundation was grated speaker fees to bring Wes Moore, author of “The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates” to the Ivy Tech Kokomo Campus in January.
Health and Human Services programs funded include: CASA of Fulton County to finish the backyard fence; Matthew’s Market/Ministries of the Cross to help with the purchase of a lift truck for hauling donated food to serve those in need; Salvation Army to continue in their goal of providing emergency assistance to Fulton County; and the United Ministries of Fulton County for technology upgrades.
“Providing these grants is one of the highlights of our year,” said Brian Johnson, director of development for the FCCF. “You meet incredible people doing amazing projects that help Fulton County.”
These grants, along with Impact Grants to the Nickel Plate Trail, Fulton County Council on Aging and preschool scholarships, bring the total amount granted in 2013 to $100,000.
Since 1993, the Fulton County Community Foundation has awarded more than $2.1 million to local projects that make a difference in the community.
