BOURBON – Several students on one of the Community Destination Imagination Teams has taken on the task of saving headstones of local cemeteries. Current team members Sidney Pflueger, Caitlyn Ihnen, Josh Wagers and MacKenzie Cook will host five public workshop and working days to teach and restore the history that is crumbling away. The first days will be June 16 from noon to 4 p.m. and June 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. These workshops will be held at the Parks Oddfellows Cemetery on Bourbon Street in Bourbon. More work days will come in July and August. At the work days the team will teach how to properly level and straighten sagging bases, how to reset older headstones in their bases, proper reconstruction and setting of broken stones, and proper cleaning to remove the liken and algae from the stones. The work days are open to the public and children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult and willing to work. Liability waivers will be available to be signed on site. Bring work gloves and be prepared to get a little dirty. For more information, check out the team’s Facebook site at “the Zombie Project,” or contact the team at restorestones@gmail.com
