Parents, if you have been looking for an activity for your children, we have something for you.
The Community Arts Program Vocal Vision Prep is a program for children in grades K-2 to learn the basic elements of singing and music-making, according to a provided news release.
The skilled music teachers use games, stories, songs, rhythm instruments, movement, echoing and other techniques to encourage singing in tune, developing melodic and rhythmic independence and readiness for moving into the Vocal Vision Youth.
Starting Sept. 29, two class options will be available–the morning class will meet from 10 to 10:45 a.m. with Jordan Fredericks guiding the students, and the afternoon class will meet from 5:15 to 6 p.m. with Marlise Burkholder instructing the class. Cost for either class is $60 for the eight-week session and will be held at the Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 210 S. High St.
Registration for both classes is found at www.capwarsaw.com/vocal-vision-prep. Questions may be directed to Judie Meulink, artistic director for the vocal vision youth programs at jmeulink@capwarsaw.com.
Jordan Fredericks was born and raised in Warsaw. He was involved in the arts all around Warsaw during grade school, including Wagon Wheel Theatre, voice, piano and violin lessons from local teachers, church worship and Warsaw Community High School's choir, theatre, studio arts and orchestra. In 2019, he received his BM in Composition from Cedarville University with minors in Biblical Studies, Music Technology, and Theatre Arts.
After graduating from college, he taught at Wawasee High School as the choir director, applied music teacher and musical director for two years. He went on to receive his MM in Composition from Ball State University in 2024, having worked as a full-time graduate assistant for music theory, aural skills and the Ball State University Singers during his tenure. He was then hired to teach music theory and aural skills courses as an adjunct professor the year after he graduated. For the last five years, he has also been a local private instructor for piano, voice, and composition and has built a studio filled with wonderful students that he greatly enjoys working with.
