Community Apple Orchard To Open For Limited Time

Posted
WINONA LAKE - The Community Apple Orchard is opening the orchard for a limited time this year, given a small harvest than expected.

Dates the orchard will be open will be Sept. 3, 10 and 17 from 9 a.m. to noon. There will be 10 apple varieties. The condition of apples varies.

The orchard does not use synthetic pesticides (no chemicals) so most apples are not in supermarket condition, according to a news release from the Community Apple Orchard.

People can pick up apples for 75 cents a pound with a limit of one bushel. Vouchers are available for free apples from the orchard through Combined Community Services, where people pick up to half a bushel. People can renew their voucher weekly until the apples are gone.

Students of Grace College are helping the orchard Sept. 10.

The Community Apple Orchard is a 501(c)3 and has been registered in Indiana since 2010 when the business was incorporated. The Form 990s since 2010 are available online using a Google search.

The property is owned by Grace College and they have been letting the orchard use their grounds since 2010, according to the release.

Since 2010, 55,000 pounds of apples have been harvested with over 31,000 pounds donated.
