Interested citizens and planning commission members of South Whitley met following Monday's commission meeting to sign up for various committees which focus on town revitalization. Julia Robinson greeted everyone, saying the group's purpose is to coordinate with the planning commission and the town council as plans develop and move forward. One of the town council's goals is to develop a comprehensive plan. "We're a small community," she said, "We have to work together." Four committees were established: Promotion and Art; Recreational Opportunities; Economic Development and New Business; and Design. People were also asked to set dates for their next meeting. Anyone interested in learning about or joining a committee may do so at any time. The Promotion and Art committee will meet Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in town hall. Recreational Opportunities is meeting on the first and third Wednesday of the month, Feb. 6 and 20, at 6 p.m. in the South Whitley library. The Design committee, which will develop how the town looks, plans to meet with Economic Development and New Business members on the second and fourth Monday, Feb. 11 and 25, at 7 p.m. in town hall. Robinson said an overall group goal is to establish a non-profit organization by the end of 2013. A working title for the organization is Whitley on the Move. A Facebook page is planned to keep everyone with a Facebook account updated on progress. For more information, contact Robinson by email at robinsonjulia1945@gmail.com
